The way to weave yoga into your life
We live complicated lives and at the same time crave peace of mind and vibrant health.
From my 30 years of teaching Iyengar yoga, I've created this unique online yoga program for experienced yoga practitioners.
It includes:
Sadhana Circle and Teachers Circle will help you continually renew your love of yoga and have a more easeful relationship with life.
Over thirty years of teaching yoga experience
That's right - I've taught yoga for more than thirty years!
I started practicing yoga and teaching yoga, both in unremarkable ways. When I was nineteen-years old, a friend recommended her yoga teacher, saying, "she uses the Sanskrit names of the poses." At the time, I was studying Anthropology and Dance in New York City and was intrigued by an American yoga teacher using Sanskrit words. I thought that she must really know something if she knows Sanskrit!
My first yoga class was my introduction to Iyengar yoga, nearly forty years ago, and I haven't stopped since that day. I never thought about teaching yoga. When I was twenty-five years old, I was teaching dance to children, and the owner of the studio where I worked said, "You do yoga, right?' I said I did and she told me that the yoga teacher was pregnant and she needed someone to substitute while she was on maternity leave. I asked my yoga teacher if I could teach and she said, "sure." So I started teaching and then joined her yoga teacher's training.
I received my first yoga teaching certificate, Introductory (now called Level 1), in 1996 in the United States. In 2000, I moved to Berlin, Germany, (fell in love... why else?!) and have taken five more teaching exams, which included anatomy and physiology, yoga philosophy, yoga therapy, teaching skills, and the demonstration of asanas and pranayama. I have a Senior Intermediate 2 (Level 3) certificate and also mentor teachers and assess teaching exams in Germany and other countries in Europe. I'm also a certified yoga therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
When I think about why I've taught and practiced yoga all these years, I always think about something an old art teacher told me. He said that everything we do in life is by invitation. Either someone invites us or we invite ourselves. Years ago, I was invited by my friend to try yoga and by my old boss to teach yoga. Both times, I said yes. By saying yes, I changed the course of and joy in my life in countless ways.
And it's been my life's work, ever since, to send the invitation to yoga out.
A tool kit for healing and compassion
Iyengar yoga is both methodical and creative!
Within class and from class to class, the safe and systematic progression of asanas—demonstrated with specific teaching points, fosters intelligent action—developing each student’s strength, flexibility, stamina, and alignment.
Individual corrections, adjustments, and variations are one of the unique hallmarks of Iyengar yoga. Rather than emphasizing the outer appearance of the asana, my interest is in the inner experience of the practice. Alignment simply means balance, in body and mind. The teachings are there to guide us deeper on the yoga path, and closer to ourselves.
In the Sadhana Circle Online, you get, in addition to the monthly classes and Q + A sessions, extra resources, guidance, and personal feedback on your practice. There are opportunities to ask for individual help through private practice chats or private lessons. We stay in contact throughout the month in my weekly emails and, for those on Facebook, in a private group.
In the Teachers Circle, yoga teachers gather together to discuss topics like how to help students with specific problems and how to navigate teaching yoga in today's world and its varied challenges. It's a wonderfully supportive and international group of experienced yoga teachers.
Everything you'll need for the journey!

When you join, you get these amazing bonuses!
Practice for Deep Depression for Experienced Students
There are many kinds of depression. Iyengar yoga takes into account these differences when designing a practice to lift spirits and balance your mood. Experienced yoga practitioners have the potential to adapt their yoga sequences and asanas significantly to address deep depression. This sequence and accompanying practice information will get you moving and raise you up when you need it.
At some point, we all need to learn about back care. Whether we sit at a desk for long hours or are on our feet all day, our back health, strength, and mobility are important. These easy-to follow sequences, one long and one short, are designed to help you understand how to maintain a healthy back and to care for it when pain or injury occurs.

"I enjoy having the scheduled meetings and being able to go back to practice again and study and take notes. Also, it is very useful with the Q&A - and when you watch it offline afterwards. I feel my own practice has improved since I joined Sadhana Circle. It gives me a kind of anchor, and helps me not to dig into the rabbit holes of the internet with offers of practices, videos etc. It is easier for me to focus."
-Mette Olesen, Yoga Teacher, Denmark
"Thanks for your support. I particularly appreciate how compassionate you are, even when your lessons are challenging. I am learning a lot from you, and not only technically."
-Lorena Simonetto, Yoga Teacher, Italy
"It is indeed my yoga community, thanks to the energy created by Elizabeth in the first place! Practicing together once a month and discussing our issues is essential for me. Thank you for your knowledge, wisdom, empathy--and support!"
-Metka Zupančič, Yoga Teacher, Slovenia
"It's good to have a set date for the practice. It forces me to make time which I don't always do. My favourite part is learning more in depth about the poses. Elizabeth is a great empathic teacher who explains very well and she suggests variation for specific problems."
- Helen Weichmann
"Elizabeth's commitment and ability to meet the students genuinely creates this supportive community. Her experience and ability to guide from there. Her way of incorporating daily life into yoga practice, making yoga the holistic practice I deeply resonate with."
- Bente Elvemo
"I love Liz's emails, they really help me analyze some aspects of yoga and the ways it affects your life and, for a raw beginner like I am, it's sometimes tough. I love our sessions even though I don't participate all the time. Elizabeth is very sweet but also "strong" in her teaching. She listens to us and always gives us an alternative/a solution to our specific problem. The sharing after the lesson with the rest of the group is always a plus."
- Chiara Gennari
"Sadhana Circle is more than in normal class, I have the feeling of community and really appreciate your weekly emails. They continue to inspire me to stay with Yoga. I'm so grateful to have encountered you as a teacher. Only through your classes have I understood that Yoga is not about building physical skills but about getting in touch with myself. And I feel that I'm on this path now, which helps me in all kinds of situations."
-Anett Hein, Germany
"I have enjoyed every minute I have dedicated to the classes, and love receiving your e-mails every Monday! They are truly inspiring and always seem to be perfect for the moment I am going through. Just so grateful to have found you!"

"I find it is very supportive to know that we have meetings every month. Even though I practice otherwise, it gives another frame. Just to say thank you for this immense work you are doing, the energy you bring to your teaching is really inspiring. It makes sense of what yoga can bring to our lives."
-Nolwenn Le Martelot, Yoga Teacher, France
"My experience: the emails are a very good reminder. I like that they come weekly and I always read them. It gives a feeling of being part of the group on a regular basis, not just once a month for the classes. I appreciate the content that varies from pure yoga to life wisdom, which is the important connection or bridge I always look for. The variety of classes is very good, always such different focus areas, always expanding for me."
-Bente Elvemo, Yoga Teacher, Norway
"I enjoy seeing and being with everyone in the Sadhana Circle, it is always a highlight for me. It is inspiring and connects me on a deep level with myself, trusting myself, seeing how we as a group come together just by devotion and a shared vision of what we cherish in life, our Yoga practice (coming from all these different places)."
